Boulders Beach, commonly known as Boulder Bay, is made up of inlets between granite boulders from which the name originated. It is home to a colony of African Penguins that settled there in 1982 and forms part of the Table Mountain National Park.

The city is famous for its natural beauty and floristic region as well as Table Mountain and the Cape Point. Cape Town was name the World Design Capital for 2014 and was named as the best place in the world to visit in the same year by The New York Times and The Telegraph. The first European settlement of the Cape started in 1652 when Jan van Riebeek arrived to establish a shipping outpost for the Dutch East India Company.
