All things considered, this was a Great Deal!, June 23, 2015

The Canon PowerShot, is flat out an awesome camera. I’m a photographer, and I usually reserve all of my important pictures for my SLR. However, sometimes I just don’t want to take the expensive camera out, and lug around all of the accessories and lenses. Therefore I bought this camera.

I originally purchased the SX520 model, which is essentially the same camera as the SX530, but with a 42x Optical lens vs. a 50x. Everything else is exactly the same. So what it really comes down to is 42x Optical zoom vs. 50x Optical zoom, which both are awesome considering the Optical Image Stabilized technology that accompanies it. The two models are a few dollars different in price. If you don’t need the extra 8x optical zoom, go with the SX520 model and save a few dollars. But if you think you will be taking a lot of shots of things in the far distance, get the SX530.

Now let me tell you about this awesome camera! From the time I pulled it out of the box I could tell that it was build extremely well. The 42x Optical Zoom (24-1008mm) and 24mm Wide-Angle lens is incredible. For that same capability in a SLR you would pay a ton. I really became impressed one I started taking photos. Because of the size and versatility I find myself in more situations to take incredible shots, therefore this camera is quickly becoming my camera of choice when I go out. And for those that don’t understand the Zoom Framing Assist technology, this is a great feature. The frame assist really does make it easy to track your subject while using the extreme telephoto. If you have never used extreme telephoto without a tripod before, then you know what I mean (sSHaKyyy BuSiNeSsSs)!

Although I never considered shooting videos on my other cameras, I find that the 1080p full HD video on this camera has come in handy a few times while at a ball game. Oh, and you can take it in to professional ball games without being hassled. Did you know that some stadiums do not allow fans to bring professional grade SLR’s, or cameras with long telephoto lenses? They say that the right to use a professional camera in the stadiums is reserved for the sports press. Well with this camera, you don’t have that problem. You can take it into any stadium you want, and you will have the ability to zoom right in on the player’s faces and even people on the other side of the stadium.

For the money, you cannot get a better deal. In fact, I would have easily paid a hundred dollars more for this camera.

    […]. Thanks, for Reading!

I am floored at how underpriced this camera is! I absolutely LOVE it! The image quality is unbelievable, and extremely detailed. Don’t believe me? Check out the picture I took last night of the moon with this camera!

I took photography for several years in college and have a casual interest, though I’m rusty, and am a novice in digital photography. I find I miss having a manual focus a lot. It’s frustrating getting the camera to focus on the subject sometimes, even when it’s in the middle of the frame. The zoom capabilities are pretty great for my needs and entertainment, and I can see the image stabilization really helping make it possible to take shots without a tripod. I was happy with the depth of field I was able to achieve in close up shots. The soda tab shows how close I was able to focus in without zoom. You can get objects right up to the lens, which was resting on the edge of the can in that shot.

I didn’t really like any of the “filters” that come on the camera, I didn’t find any of them useful or even cool looking. My old canon EOS that was stolen had way nicer filters on it. I also don’t understand why it defaults to saving a version of the photo with each filter, you should be able to pick one filter and save only that version of the photo.

Overall I’m happy with this camera, although it really doesn’t have the frills I wish it did, and the frills it does have (wifi enabled/filters) I don’t really need. I’m very happy with it as my first superzoom camera, it’s really fun and I look forward to taking it out on more hikes and camping trips.
