Classical music visits the Matzikama
Vredendal High School and Camerata Tinta Barocca present the Matzikama Music Week
At the end of April, some of South Africa's leading classical music artists will be performing world class music performances and teaching master classes in the heart of the Matzikama.
Vredendal High School, in collaboration with the Camerata Tinta Barocca Baroque Orchestra, presents the Matzikama Music Week from Monday, April 25 to Friday, April 29.
According to Michéle de Villiers, Head of Music at Vredendal High School, 700 students from ten schools have the chance to experience the music of the Camerata Tinta Barocca, led by orchestra director Erik Dippenaar. The school children will also be given the chance to play some of the instruments. Dippenaar is known as a leading harpsichord player and recently performed at the KKNK with Stefan Temmingh in the musical Corelli à la Mode, that was nominated for a Kanna Award.
Other musicians that will be performing in Vredendal are soprano Lente Louw, Caroline Walters on the recorder, Cheryl de Havilland with her baroque cello and lute-, theorbo- and the baroque guitar specialist Uwe Grosser.
Master classes in piano, recorder and singing are also going to be presented by the musicians throughout the week.
Highlights of the week to look out for are the two concerts by Camerata Tinta Barocca on Tuesday, April 26 and Thursday, April 28. Tuesday evening at 19:00 will see music by Handel, Corelli, Castello and Caccini presented in the Letsatsi Lodge Chapel in Van Rhynsdorp. On Thursday night the orchestra will be performing at 18:30 alongside music students from Vredendal High School in the Dutch Reformed Congregation.
Tickets are available from R80 per person for adults and R40 per person for children, available from the school.
