Amadou & Mariam Live in Singapore – a Africa interest event taking place on 2018-11-12 20:00:00 in Singapore
Figure8 Agency is proud to announce the debut performance of the most successful African musical ambassadors of the 21st century, Amadou & Mariam in Singapore. Performing at the Capitol Theatre for the first time on Monday 12 November 2018.
For more than forty years, Amadou & Mariam have joyfully combined their love story with a musical partnership, becoming the world’s foremost ambassadors of Malian music, and African music generally. The Malian couple have collaborated with many different artists and producers who may seem far removed from their universe, including Damon Albarn of Blur and Manu Chao. They have invited musicians leading the way towards the pop music of tomorrow (Santigold, TV On The Radio, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) to play on their lively and uplifting songs; they have been remixed by Yuksek, Vitalic, Henrik Schwarz, Miike Snow and Ashley Beedle, taking their music to the club floor and underlining its infectious, danceable quality. They have played the world’s biggest festivals, from Coachella to Glastonbury, and opened for marquee acts such as Coldplay and Scissor Sisters.
By infusing their Afro-pop with new flavours, the duo has revealed the richness and subtlety of African music, bringing it to the charts and the dance floors of the wider world. They’ve inspired many others to mix Afro and electro sounds, such as MHD, DJ Mujava, Awesome Tapes From Africa, Four Tet or Jamie xx. While certain crazy minds in the ‘80s entertained fantasies of a ‘Sono Mondiale,’ Amadou & Mariam made this synthesis their life’s work.
