AET Africa’s Young Artist Competition a Great Success!

Established in 2014, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa, AET Africa is a truly inspirational company. Their efforts to promote conservation and renew and reuse existing raw material and products have won them several awards in energy and innovation. They are perhaps best known for their award-winning Hotspot – an ingenious invention that increases the speed of the heating of water in a geyser. Simple, affordable and a great cost saving for households!

Community is key to AET Africa’s ethos.

This 55% woman owned level 2 & 80% BEE start-up company ensures that local employment is being created at every turn in the production of all their products. Our Green Star profile on Executive Manager Sandiswa Qayi provides insight into the drive and vision that is at the heart of this inspirational company.

Their most recent initiative is again testament to their embrasive approach. Realising that the future lies in the hands of our children, they launched a nation-wide art competition calling on learners between the ages of 5 and 10 to submit drawings depicting their visions for the future via their art.

With the opportunity to have their design featured on the AET range of textile products as well the prize of R1000 for the winner and prizes for runners up too, entries poured in from across South Africa. The standard of entries was exceptional and once the judging panel had selected 10 finalists, the public were called on to vote.

Once the votes were tallied, first prize was awarded to Heidi Le Roux and runner up prize was awarded to Aneska Bruwer. Amazingly, both girls are students at Outeniqua Primary School in George.

The ‘feel good’ factor of this initiative is further enhanced by the fact that both winners will be donating a portion of proceeds from the merchandise on which their designs are utilised to organizations of their choice. Heidi has elected Invasive Fish Species Management (IFSM) while Aneska will be making a contribution to the newly formed AET Africa Eco Kids Club.

Both girls’ stunning designs are currently available on backpacks and shopping bags (with more merchandise items in the pipeline for the future) and can be purchased online via the AET AFRICA ONLINE SHOP – use the code GoGreen at checkout to receive a 10% discount.
