Academy Symphony Orchestra – a Music interest event taking place on 2019-11-29 00:00:00 in United Kingdom
Sir Mark Elder conductor Berlioz Overture to Les francs-juges, Op 3; March to the Scaffold from Symphonie fantastique, Op 14; March of the Pilgrims from Harold in Italy, Op 16; King Lear Overture, Op 4 Sir Mark Elder, Music Director of the Halle and Barbirolli Chair of Conducting at the Academy, conducts a selection of Berlioz's programmatic and dramatic music, opening with the overture to his unfinished opera, Les francs-juges. Arguably the most well known of the French composer's repertory, Symphonie fantastique tells the story of an artist destroyed by unrequited love. One of the most famous sections, the March to the Scaffold, presents a dream scene featuring reworked musical material from Les francs-juges.
