A Body Politic :: FRINGE ART – a Africa interest event taking place on 2016-11-08 19:00:00 in United States
Bill has emerged as a visual artist this century — after many years in Washington DC as an impresario of performing arts and music. His history in DC as a “cultural rabble-rouser” included founding d.c. space, a seminal alternative venue run by artists from 1977-1991 (a downtown performance space/creative laboratory, a kin to Capital Fringe), and the original Nightclub 9:30/Atlantic Building on F Street. He and his District Curators also produced numerous festivals over two decades from the Pension Building to Freedom Plaza that included 9th Street Crossings, New Music America: Washington 1983, Africa Fete, ADD Arts and the Jazz Arts Festival until 2000.
A BODY POLITIC — paintings and drawings — triggered by his career in Washington DC in the midst of US elections. Each canvas is a “Political Landscape” that consider both the strength and vulnerability of the human body, seen through the threatening lens of ever-changing US politics and burning issues of the day.
