4 Ways Social Media Helps You Find Freelance Writing Gigs:

Meta Description: There are lots of potential freelance clients on social media but how do you find them? Here’s how you can spot freelance writing gigs.

There are lots of potential work opportunities floating around on social media.

People constantly tweet or send out notices when they need freelance writers. Plus, when businesses hire new staff, they also announce job vacancies on social media platforms to boost awareness.

That said, how can you find these online opportunities? Here are 4 things you need to do:

1. Subscribe to Freelance Writing Job Newsletters

Some freelance writers have created newsletters that aggregate recent freelance writing opportunities.

Some examples include Sian Mendes’ Freelance Writing Jobs weekly newsletter, The Freelance Beat newsletter and the Morning Coffee Newsletter from Freelancewriting.com. The Write Life has a list of email newsletters that can help you find jobs too.

Anything worth having comes with a price, and you could say the same for these newsletters. You might have to pay a small fee to get these emails on a weekly basis, but it’s totally worth it if it leads to new gigs!

2. Join Facebook Groups In Your Industry

People with similar professions tend to form groups online, and the same goes for freelance writers.

Some have created Facebook groups where they can discover tips, advice, and opportunities. While some groups focus on freelance writing in general, others tend to specialize in specific niches.

There’s a group for freelance writers in Fintech, marketing, email and so much more. If you’re a marketing writer, you can join The Freelance Content Marketing Writer group to connect with people in your industry and find freelance opportunities. The Fiverr Forum is another great place to get involved and have conversations with likeminded people about freelancing.

A good tip is to join both general and specific freelance writing groups to find tips on how to succeed as a freelance writer and to discover industry-specific opportunities.

3. Explore Social Media Posts on LinkedIn

LinkedIn’s job section lets users find freelance writing jobs but you can also find recruiters by reading social media.

To get started, go to the content section on LinkedIn and use the search term “freelance writer”. This lets you view freelance writer-centric posts.

You can filter posts and only view the ones from the past 24 hrs / past week / past month.

Look out for the most recent opportunities because being the first in line lets recruiters immediately notice you. Also, once you open your LinkedIn profile, you can easily attach your Fiverr gigs and promote your skills to a relevant network. Win-win!

4. Join Subreddits & Engage

There are lots of people who join Reddit to ask for life advice, but the platform is also a goldmine for freelance writing opportunities.

Subreddits like /r/ForHire, /r/HireAWriter and/r/WritingOpportunities constantly have a stream of job opportunities to search through.

To stand out from the variety of applicants and gain credibility, you’ll need to have good karma on Reddit. You can increase karma by joining subreddits based on your industry or interests and commenting on Reddit posts.

Never Give Up

Unless you have years of experience, you might not get a lot of clients at the beginning, but there’s no need to be discouraged.

Ultimately, the trick to growing your business and number of clients is to be consistent with networking, pitching and applying to opportunities. That being said, never give up and keep forging ahead!
