Mark your calendars – 11 April is National Board Game Day, a perfect excuse to gather your favourite people and get stuck into an afternoon of laughs, strategy, and unexpected plot twists.
In an age of screens and scrolling, board games offer a refreshing return to real connection. Whether you’re trading wheat for sheep in Catan, escaping a cursed temple with EXIT: The Game, laughing your way through rapid-fire questions in 5 Second Rule, or embarking on epic quests in Dungeons & Dragons, there’s a game out there for every personality and play style.
South Africans have embraced the board game revival, with game nights becoming a regular fixture in many households. “Board games are about shared moments – the kind you talk about for days afterwards,” says Philip Galliford, Marketing Manager at Solarpop. “They get us thinking, laughing, solving, and storytelling. On National Board Game Day, we’re celebrating the joy of play and the timeless magic that comes from gathering around a table.”
