Returning from a self-imposed hiatus, Relish play The Milford Room, Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow Friday 30th Sept.. Relish are a Northern Irish rock band composed of brothers Ken (vocals and guitar) and Carl (drums, keyboards and vocals) Papenfus, and until 2013 Darren Campbell (bass and vocals). They have released three albums: 2001's "Wildflowers" (Platinum), "Karma Calling" (Gold) in 2003 (both of these were on the EMI Ireland label), and "Connected" in 2011. "Wildflowers | Karma Calling was released as a double album package by Universal Records (Ireland) in 2015. Relish have been hailed by some of the greatest contributors to music of our time. Champions include Brian May, Paul Weller, and U2's Larry Mullen among a host of world-renowned musicians. This album is most definitely their greatest work to date. The band are perhaps best known for the songs "Rainbow Zephyr" and "You I'm Thinking Of", from their debut album, "Wildflowers". They had 4 chart-topping Irish singles, and topped the Japanese most played list. The Papenfus brothers are sons of South African jazz singer Jane Londis (of Golden City Dixies fame) and doctor of psychology, author and percussionist Stan Papenfus. Their parents fled South Africa whose apartheid system deemed their inter-racial marriage illegal and settled in Belfast, Northern Ireland in the early 1970s. The Papenfus' sons early musical upbringing was augmented by their parents record collection of jazz, gospel + world music and 1960s rock; their only possession brought from South Africa. "It feels magical to be back with a new album, possibly the best album we have ever written," says Relish lead singer Ken Papenfus. "The band has a renewed spirit and enthusiasm and it really couldn't be better right now." During 2014 and 2015 Ken and Carl Papenfus have been guitarist and drummer respectively in Sinead O'Connor's band extensively touring Europe, the USA, Australia and South America. During 2014 and 2015 Ken and Carl Papenfus co-wrote and performed as guitarist and drummer respectively on the soundtrack of the John Carney (director of Oscar winner Once) movie "Sing Street" released in March 2016. After having set up their own label Zephyr Sounds as a new home for forthcoming Relish releases, Ken and Carl secured a global licensing label deal with US label Rock Ridge Music, home to Sister Hazel and more.
