At first glance it looks like Google can be classified as the Thinking Internet Surfers search engine and Yahoo as the Search Engine for skanky People's Magazine readers!
Food for thought - even in the global search engine world there are horses for courses.
Just a NASTY LITTLE THOUGHT here - the above search terms are taken DIRECTLY off of the Google and Yahoo Pages and I want to know the following:
"Why are the Yahoo searches correctly capitalised?"
"When last did you see a searcher enter any search term with the correct capitalisation, let alone the correct spelling?"

Wordtracker is a commercial service that helps you to find the best keywords for your web site. The best keywords are those words and phrases commonly typed in by your potential customers, but which aren't used much on your competitors' web sites.
In other words, if you optimize your pages for keywords that your potential customers use a lot, but your competitors haven't thought of, you win. IBP helps you to find these keywords.
Quickly access Wordtracker within the easy-to-use IBP interface
The new IBP version 9.5 offers easy access to Wordtracker's keyword suggestion tools. Just enter a keyword and IBP will get the keyword suggestions from Wordtracker:
Full Wordtracker integration
You don't have to go to the Wordtracker web site and you don't have to login to a Wordtracker account. IBP will do it for you.
Quickly separate the wheat from the chaff
IBP does much more than only finding keyword suggestions and the number of searches.
IBP automatically calculates the KEI, IBP gets the number of search results, the top result on Google for the selected keyword (with Google Search API support) and the Google PageRank of the top ranked page.
That allows you to quickly find the best keywords with the highest searches and the lowest competition:
High search volume + low competition = your chance to get top rankings
If you want to get high rankings on search engines, then keywords with a high search volume and low competition are the best keywords that you can get. It's relatively easy to get high rankings for these keywords and you'll get a considerable amount of traffic through these keywords.
IBP helps you to find these keywords quickly and easily. Remember that the new Wordtracker integration is only one of many more great new keyword tools in the new
IBP version.
In addition to Wordtracker, IBP can use the keyword tools of popular pay per click search engines, IBP can analyze the web sites of your competitors to find the best keywords and much more. If you haven't done it yet, download the new IBP demo version now.
Ho Hum
It is that time of the year again. Everyone is trotting out their top ten lists for the year.
Quick, rush to the Yahoo Top 10 list and make your life far more meaningful when you find out that the most searched for term was 'Britney Spears'.
The whole dumbing down of the internet public by making them search for the term Britney Spears when they actually just want to search for beaver shots of Britney Spears just gets too much this time of the year.
And then, of course, you get idiots, like moi, who then write about 'Britney Spears' being the most searched for term, in the vain hope that someone will type in the search term 'Britney Spears comes to South Africa and shows jaded SEO expert her beaver', thereby bringing him fame and fortune and everything that goes with it, I thank you all ......
Hang on, now we are stealing song lyrics?
Get a life Boet!
What brought this rambling 'Britney Spears Beaver' tirade on?
I sat with a client / friend / peer / aspirant internet domninator / whatever this morning and tried to teach him, what I have assimilated vis osmosis, injection of liquidised hard disk drive and other nefariuous means, about internet marketing, search engine optimistaion etc. etc. etc. The top 10 list in any succesful web site, in reducing order of importance is:
1. Unique and Compelling Content
2. Unique and Compelling Content
3. Targetted Traffic
4. Targetted Traffic
5. Good Linking Strategies
6. Good inbound links
7. The site must grab the surfers attention within 2 seconds
8. The LIST
9. Give them a reason to return
10. Allow them to interact.
Looking once again at the Top list of Overall Searches I see that 'Britney Spears' is in some good overall skanky company as the old standby ho Pamela Anderson also appears in the top 10 for probably the 14th time since the invention of the internet.
What was that about Good Content? Sure looks like the good content can also come in the beaver bikini filling kind as well.
Bah Humbug, Have a great 2007.
Following on from my post citing reasons not to be indexed by the Search Engines I picked up this news story on WRAL.com:
RALEIGH, N.C. -- A Johnston County judge ordered Internet search engine juggernaut Google on Wednesday to remove personal content accidentally posted online.
Though the information _ including Social Security numbers, cell phone numbers and identifying details of some Johnston County taxpayers _ had been removed from the Internet, remnants of the Web page remained available through Google's "cache" system, which temporarily logs online content.
Fearing the possibility of identity theft, Johnston County officials asked Google on Monday to remove the information. It was first posted on the county's Web site by accident six weeks ago and discovered Friday. Mountain View, Calif.-based Google responded that removal could take up to about five days, said county attorney Mark Payne.
"It surprised me that Google didn't immediately recognize that this was something that posed a real danger of real damage to our citizens," Payne said.
Well, all I have to say is Google needs to manage incidents like this a little quicker lest the door that has been opened a crack, gets flung open and becomes a flood.

With a nod to my post, 10 reasons to NOT list on the Search Engines, I suppose that you could also add another one - "Because we will not need to spend money on marketing"
But, we made the system and worship daily at the feet of the almighty god named Search so, if you are looking for marketing tips, then there is no better than the tips from Derek:
