Slumber whale comes with AC adaptor so you can plug it in. No batteries needed. It has two different sets of images–Cow in space and Ocean animals. Each set has 3 different images that change automatically when turned on. You can dim or intensity the projection according to how dark or bright the room is. There are different 3 natural white noises (heartbeat, white noise, ocean), and 3 lullabies. There are three timer settings 15, 30, 60 minutes. You can leave it on all night if you want to. I do…though I sneak back in the room after baby falls asleep to turn off the projection. I leave the sound on all night since it downs out other noise. That way she won’t be disturbed when we walk around, talk, watch tv, and do things around the house.
I highly recommend this product but I don’t recommend using the projection feature until your baby is old enough…for my baby, that was right around 9 months. You can use the sounds an lullabies as early as you want.
Prior to buying the Slumber whale, we were using the Cloub B Sleep Sheep Cloud B Sleep Sheep which we started at birth. Baby would get a bottle before every nap and every night before bed. We would rock her to sleep while the Sleep Sheep made noise in the background. It worked like a charm until she sprouted teeth and the doctor warned us not to give her a bottle before bed anymore to since sugars left from formula could cause cavities. (Note: Sleep Sheep is battery operated and turns off automatically after 20 or 40 minutes).
That’s when I bought my first Slumber Whale. I put it on the ocean sound, which was the same sound we used on the Sleep Sheep. Then I turned on the image projection. Then put her in the crib. She will listen and watch the images until she drifts of to lala land. Even if she goes down crying and fussing, she’s quite within minutes. It usually takes my girl less than 15 minutes to self sooth and fall asleep by herself. This worked so great, I quickly bought another one for grandma’s house. And I just bought a third one recently as a gift for a friend who saw ours. My girl is now 13 months and still uses this every day.
