A South African Politics video production – Final rallies ahead of South African election:
South Africa’s ruling ANC and opposition parties have held their final rallies ahead of Wednesday’s general elections.
Recent polls show the African National Congress will stay in power with a smaller majority. The government and the ruling ANC have faced criticism for alleged corruption. The ANC has dominated South African politics since 1994, when it led the movement against the former apartheid regime. The main opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, now controls the Western Cape Province. It also hopes to make strong gains in the Gauteng, which is the most populous province. Another challenger is the Economic Freedom Fighters party. It is run by Julius Malema and wants to redistribute wealth in the society. South Africa has about 25 million registered voters.
